Project Overview
Aiming for a Society where Children and Youth Can Live Safely and Free from Abuse, Depression, and Suicide
We are conducting research to eliminate situations where children and youth are deeply hurt by abuse, bullying, or family problems, leading to depression or suicide. It is known that adverse experiences in childhood have a major negative impact on mental and physical health in adulthood. However, the causes have not yet been fully elucidated, and methods for prevention and care based on scientific evidence are not yet established.
We are developing technologies that make the mental state of children and youth “visible” through brain imaging and blood tests, enabling early detection of signs of mental distress. This allows us to identify children and youth in need of support at an early stage and connect them with appropriate care and assistance. In addition, we are working to improve the environments surrounding children and foster resilience—the ability to overcome adversity—through mutual support among adults.
Through these initiatives, we aim to realize a society where children can learn with peace of mind, laugh together, pursue their dreams, enjoy life, and live in good mental and physical health throughout their future.
